Are there any shows that you don’t watch simply because of your principles?
The other day, I realized that I was sort of getting away from my roots, so to speak, with this blog. I believe my first entry promised something to the extent of a Christian tech blog, and the first month has revealed more tech blog than Christian.
Of course, part of my vision has been not to be too preachy, but I wonder if perhaps I might err on the other extreme. I’d like to talk more about some more Christian things on future posts, and I’d like to start with one of my favorite subjects: television.
I believe that television habits are changing daily with the advent of watching television online. With sites like Hulu, Crackle, and various other video sharing sites that allow users to watch their favorite television shows when and where they want to. Not to mention DVRs and portable media sharing devices.
Because of these sites, I have realized the wonders of watching TV online, and have exposed myself to many a TV show. Some of them have been quite good, but the other day, I realized how easy it is to watch a TV show that I would normally never watch.
I believe that networks don’t the Internet because it makes it difficult to track what shows are liked. Personally, I don’t see why there isn’t some sort of tracker on these sites, so the number of people watching them can’t be counted daily, weekly, and monthly. However, I’m guessing that more people seeing their favorite shows online rather than sit in front of a TV nightly.
The reason why I bring this up is because last week, I was watching Fox’s Sunday Animation Domination and I realized that three out of four are really sick. I’m not certain why I ignored the bawdiness of Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show, but for some reason, I just realized that I just have better things to do.
I bring this up because I believe there are a lot Christians out there who love to watch TV, but are not certain which shows they should watch. I’ve stated three that I am not going to watch simply because they just aren’t good for me.
Therefore, I would like to know what shows most Christians are avoiding based on general principle. I believe they will be different for everyone, and I would like to open up the comment section for this. Let’s get talking.
