Try out a Nook now

500x_nook_next-to-paperbacksOh, that elusive Nook. As previously reported, you will not see it before the holidays.

However, if you are saving up money for after the holidays, and you just want to see it for yourself, feel free to head over to the Nook locator to find a Nook demonstration nearest you. Perhaps then you will decide that you really want a different e-book reader after all.

Want a Nook for Christmas? Sold out, sorry.

nook_front_view_270x359Have you ever noticed that just before the holiday season rolls around, there is some big item that everyone wants?
Think Nintendo 64. Think Sony Playstation 2.

This year, it might be the Nook. Yes, that awesome reader from Barnes and Noble is out of stock, according to the company website.

Of course, none have even been shipped yet, and looks like no one will be able to get their hands on it, at least not this year. Yeah, if you order it right now, you should see it come your way come January 4th at the earliest.

The same thing happened with the Kindle last year from Amazon. Many speculate that Barnes and Noble tried to compete with Amazon and was not able to keep up with the inventory. By the way, there are plenty of Kindles for sale, and would get to you before the holiday.

I’m not certain what to think: Barnes and Noble’s E-book reader

BN_frontYesterday, I posted something about how I was crushing a rumor about Barnes and Noble teaming up with Plastic Logic to create an e-book reader. Unfortunately, I don’t know how true that is, because these photos that you see here have leaked onto the net.

This is Barnes & Noble’s e-book reader, and it does have a color screen. However, it also has a 800 x 600 6 inch monochrome e-ink display as well as this color display. The color display is a 480 x 144 color LCD that appears to be for browsing book covers and other content, and it also can transform into a virtual keyboard.

I have decided to shut up about this whole e-book reader from Barnes and Noble until I can obtain reliable information. I’m not suggesting that what I reported on before was from unreliable sources, it’s just that one can only get so far when hearing so many contradicting voices!

I Shall Crush this Rumor Part 2: Barnes and Noble is not making an ereader with color screen

I don’t think that I reported on this as yet, but someone reported that Barnes and Noble had teamed up with Plastic Logic to produce an ereader with a color screen. That someone is seen in the video before you, and I feel sorry for this reporter that isn’t seen.

Yes, that new development was quite a scoop, but it was not true. In company statement, Barnes and Noble said that the person in this video was not an authorized Barnes and Noble spokesperson, but he apparently had enough money to spring for a T-shirt.

Okay, I said that last part, but hey, you can see how one bit of misinformation can really screw things up.
